From my earliest of memories, music was there. My father bought an old Yamaha guitar in the 70's from a pawn shop, and taught himself some chords. Right from the womb he introduced me to Doo-Wop, Rock and Roll, Country, Motown, Western Swing, and all that lies in the middle. My mother loved Classical, Opera, and Broadway. My (much) older siblings exposed me to 80's, goth rock, pop, rap, and grunge.
This early exposure to such a varied musical landscape immediately made music a driving force in my life.
My love for making music began around the age of 10 when I got my first guitar, and after learning a few chords from my father, I set out to be a self-taught musician. When I was 15 I formed a band playing hardcore (screamo) music with a few of my friends. Quickly, we began wanting to make demos of our own, which led to my introduction to the world of music production.
It started on a Windows XP PC with Audacity and a cheap unbranded dynamic microphone, but soon my bandmates and I pooled our money to buy a proper interface, a Mac, and a few decent microphones, and we were introduced to GarageBand. It was our past-time. All we did was make music, it defined us. We were lost and confused, but one thing we knew for sure, we'd always be creating.
In my 20's I began delving much deeper into music theory and production for a wide range of genre's, including, but not limited to: heavy metal, soft rock, EDM, Hip-Hop, Trap, Pop, Indie, Folk, Classical, Neo-Classical, and Country. During the years that followed I transitioned from GarageBand to Ableton, to FL Studio, to Logic. I worked mostly as a producer, but also did some composition, licensing, session vocals, guitars, drums. Looking back it sounds like I've done a lot, but I don't feel like I have because I still have so much to learn.
After my father passed in 2021 I began revisiting the music that defined him, his favorite being 70's outlaw country. Around that same time I heard a quote that had a profound effect on me:
"Don't die with your songs still inside of you."
Staring down the barrel of my own mortality, I found the determination to never let another year pass where I wasn't making music.
This was the moment I began writing my song "Songwriter's Dilemma"
The amazing thing about music is that we, as humans, assign meaning to the songs we love; but the reason I love a song might have nothing to do with why you love it.
I hope my songs can mean something to someone else.
If I've done that in the least, I'll be happy.
